A little about me
Hi, I'm Kara.
I'm so happy you're here.
If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I've always been fascinated by everything that influences how children (and their parents) feel and function — nervous systems, circadian rhythms, sensory needs, nutrition, environment, connection, play, emotional wellbeing, and the countless little pieces that make every family beautifully unique. That curiosity has shaped the last 25 years of my life.
I've supported families in many different ways over the years. I spent almost two decades as an international nanny, including travelling through Europe with families. I've run playgroups (my favourite was a nature playgroup), worked as a parenting writer and editor for more than ten years, supported parents and children through the NDIS, and became a certified family sleep consultant after searching for a more respectful, relationship-based approach to supporting families.
Sleep was another window into understanding children, and now I help their parents sleep as well.
Along the way I completed a degree in Psychology, and I'm now studying a Master of Counselling because I'd love to support neurodivergent families even more deeply in the years ahead.
Somewhere in the middle of all of this came another important discovery.
When one of my children was identified as neurodivergent, it led me to recognise the same patterns in myself. Receiving my own late diagnosis of AuDHD helped so many pieces of my life fall into place. It didn't change who I was — it simply gave me a language for understanding myself with more compassion.
Like many of the parents I meet, I'm still learning every day.
I'm also a home educating mum, and our family life is far from perfect. It can be noisy, wonderfully creative, beautifully messy, and often overwhelming. We spend as much time as we can outdoors. I love researching, slow mornings, nature, meaningful conversations, creating calm and functional spaces, and noticing the little things that help people feel safe, connected, and free to be themselves.
I don't believe there's one "right" way to parent, organise a home, support sleep, or live as a neurodivergent family.
What I do believe is that every family deserves to feel understood.
My role isn't to arrive with a rigid plan or tell you what you're doing wrong. It's to listen, to notice patterns you might be too exhausted to see, to gently help make sense of what's happening, and to work alongside you to create practical, compassionate changes that genuinely fit your family.
Because when parents feel supported and understood, everything else has a little more room to grow.
And that's the kind of work I feel incredibly grateful to be part of.
If you’re ready to explore a gentle, nurturing path to better family connection and regulation, I would love to support you. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at hello@nurturedfoundations.com.au
