Supporting the foundations of everyday wellbeing

Gentle, neuro-affirming consulting for neurodivergent families. Together we'll make sense of what's happening beneath the surface and create practical, realistic changes that help everyday life feel more manageable.

Sometimes family life feels harder than it should.

Perhaps sleep isn't working. The house feels overwhelming. Mornings are stressful. Your child struggles to get out the door. Everyone is exhausted. You're carrying the invisible load of remembering everything, while trying to support everyone else.

It can feel like a hundred separate problems.

I rarely see it that way.

Instead, I step back and look at the bigger picture.

Together, we'll explore how sleep, nervous system regulation, sensory needs, executive functioning, emotional wellbeing, the home environment, family rhythms, and everyday demands all influence one another. Rather than trying to ‘fix’ one issue in isolation, we'll become curious about the patterns, understand what's getting in the way, and gently strengthen the foundations that support everyday life.

Sometimes one small change creates a ripple effect across the whole family.

Many families I work with are deeply attuned, thoughtful, and already working hard to support their family in meaningful ways. Often what’s missing is not more strategies, but space to make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and to create changes that genuinely fit the family’s capacity, neurotypes, and lived reality.

This is a gentle, relational, judgement-free approach that values understanding over fixing, and supports your family as it is.

What this might look like

Every family already holds the ingredients for wellbeing. My role isn't to impose a system or hand over a perfect plan. It's to become curious alongside you, understand what's getting in the way, and gently strengthen the foundations that allow your family to flourish in a way that feels authentic, sustainable, and deeply your own.

Together, we might discover that...

  • your child's bedtime struggles actually begins the moment they walk through the door after school

  • everyone is forgetting things because your home is asking your brains to remember too much

  • your child isn't refusing to help in the home—they're genuinely overwhelmed by where to begin

  • the washing isn't really about the washing; it's about reducing the number of steps between taking clothes off and putting them in the laundry

  • you're trying to solve evenings when mornings are quietly setting the tone for the whole day

  • your family doesn't need a better routine—it needs rhythms that fit your nervous systems and capacity

  • making one room feel calmer changes the way everyone moves through the rest of the house

  • you've been carrying everyone else's needs for so long that there's very little left for your own wellbeing

We don't try to change everything at once.

Instead, we'll identify one or two realistic changes, see how they affect the rest of your family's day, and build from there.

How I can help you

Every family is different, but our work might include:

  • understanding sleep and circadian rhythms

  • supporting nervous system regulation

  • creating sensory-friendly home environments

  • improving the flow of mornings, after school, and bedtime

  • developing household systems that reduce executive functioning demands

  • meal planning and everyday wellbeing

  • body doubling and practical support (Melbourne families)

  • understanding autistic, ADHD and AuDHD experiences across the whole family

  • reducing burnout and making daily life feel more manageable.

I don't believe families need more information.

I believe they need space to slow down, feel understood, and make sense of what's happening.

From there, we can begin creating practical changes that fit your family's unique brains, values, and everyday life.

Every family is welcome and safe here

I am committed to culturally safe, respectful and inclusive practice, and recognise that every family's cultural background, identity, beliefs and lived experiences shape how wellbeing is understood and experienced.

I have experience supporting families with a wide range of lived experiences and presentations, including:

• autism, ADHD and AuDHD
• PDA profiles
• sensory processing differences
• autistic burnout
• OCD and anxiety
• chronic illness and disability, including POTS
• bedsharing and responsive night-time parenting
• non-speaking and minimally speaking children
• perimenopause and menopause
• LGBTQIA+ individuals, parents and families

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all advice, because no two families, brains, or lives are the same.

Nurtured-foundations

Practical In-home Support

Melbourne (Limited northern suburbs)

In-home or online practical support to create calmer, more supportive family life through organisation, planning, sensory-friendly environments, executive functioning support, and everyday systems. Can invoice for NDIS too.

If this feels like a good fit, we begin with an introductory conversation.

An initial phone or video call is a space to talk through what’s been happening in your family, what feels most challenging right now, and what you’ve already tried or noticed. There is no need to prepare anything beforehand, and nothing is expected of you beyond simply showing up as you are.

Depending on your family’s needs, support may involve different areas of daily life such as sleep and wellbeing, home environment and organisation, routines and rhythms, executive functioning supports, sensory-informed strategies, meal and daily flow planning, or creating more flow in high-stress points of the day.

The focus is always on reducing overwhelm and creating practical, realistic shifts that fit your family’s actual capacity — not adding more to your plate.

There is no pressure to commit beyond that first conversation.

Client testimonial

“I am SO relieved to have found Kara! She totally gets me and my neurodivergent family. So not only does she get excited when she sees our clutter, but I feel safe. My nervous system is regulated because I feel seen and understood, cared for and not judged, and can actually engage with the (previously overwhelming) task at hand. I'm so grateful for her. Kara is a gift!”

Meet Kara

I'm endlessly curious about what helps people and families flourish.

With a background in psychology, over 25 years supporting children and families, and ongoing counselling study, I love bringing together research, lived experience, and practical problem-solving to help make everyday life feel a little lighter.

As an AuDHDer, I naturally notice patterns that others often miss. I love asking questions, connecting the dots, and gently uncovering what's sitting beneath the surface. Whether we're exploring sleep, home life, burnout, or family rhythms, I'm less interested in quick fixes and more interested in understanding how all the pieces fit together.

I'm also a home educating parent to neurodivergent children, an avid researcher, and someone who finds genuine joy in creating systems, categorising, spending time in nature, and discovering simple, compassionate ways to support wellbeing. Around here, you'll often find conversations about nervous systems, circadian rhythms, executive functioning, sensory needs, herbs, journalling, and the small everyday changes that can have a surprisingly big impact.
